Seven teams are drafted, the rosters are set, and the floor is waiting. Welcome back to Freddy Ball Hockey, and welcome to everyone suiting up for a first season with us.
A fair bit changed over the summer, and most of it you’ll notice in the first week.
Scores while the game is still going
Results used to reach the site whenever somebody found time to type up the paper sheets. This season the score goes up while the game is being played. The home page, the schedule and the game page all carry the running score, a rough game clock, and who has put one in so far. If you’re at work, on the road, or waiting for the next slot, you can follow along.
A scoring app instead of a folder
Your scorekeeper now keeps the game sheet on a phone. Goals, assists, penalties, who showed up and which spares filled in all go in as they happen, straight into the league’s records. That’s why the standings and the stats move the same night you play instead of days later. Paper sheets still print for every game as a backup, player numbers and all, for the nights a phone has other ideas.
Your whole career in one place
Every player has a profile that carries each season you’ve played, your totals, and the playoffs kept separate from the regular season. There’s a records page for the league’s all-time marks and a searchable player directory when you want to look somebody up. Standings, team pages and rosters were all rebuilt too, and they work on a phone now, which is where most of you read them anyway.
One last thing about registration
Sign-up ran on our own site this year, so your registration, your team and your stats now live together instead of in three different places. If your $50 hasn’t come in yet, e-transfer or PayPal it to payments@freddyballhockey.com.
Opening day
Season opens this Sunday at 1pm at École Les Éclaireurs. Check the schedule for your first few weeks, and give your captain a shout if you haven’t heard from them yet.
Bring your water, bring your good stick, and bring the version of yourself your team wants on the floor in March. Play hard, keep it clean, and look after the person across from you. Here’s to a safe, competitive and enjoyable season.
