Mark Scott Farrell
Unknown to most, Mark is a Championship winning goalie, and at any time can steal a game. With that, lets breakdown his play!
Technique
Mark has on many occasions been seen wearing his Ron Hextall jersey during league play. While his style may not be that of a Hextall, his passion and drive definitely are. Mark is very vocal behind the mask and can be heard voicing his aid to both his own players, and the opposing teams. Mark is a do anything to stop the ball kinda goalie. With a never say die attitude he battles hard from beginning to end. His old school style lends itself to a Grant Fuhr style of play and as such has the ability to help teams to their ultimate goal.
Strengths
Mark’s strength lie in his drive. What he may lack in pure skill he makes up in his ability to get himself between the ball and the net. Mark’s focus lately on conditioning has been a benefit to him as he doesn’t tend to tail off at the end of games, and is as strong at minute 1 as he is at minute 21. Quick gloves are his biggest strength and can ultimately rob a shooter point blank.
Weakness
Mark is one of those unique instances who’s strength can actually be his weakness. While his drive and passion can help him win, it can also allow him to get too emotionally involved in games. A goalies mentality can inhibit his ability at times, and I am sure Mark will agree at times he can let it distract him. Mark’s only other key weakness would be he can over commit at times, allowing himself to get out of position. While most times his reflexes bail him out, it’s not always a sure thing.
Overall
Mark’s Dedication and drive are an asset to any captain willing. His style allows him to flourish in gym league play. It’s amazing that he has only been able to win one championship to this point, but it shows the depth in the league. A true steal this year for the collective, picking him with the final pick of the draft, I am sure Rick is happy to have Mark Backing him.
Of note: A little known fact about Mark is his obsession with his Gear. Magic erasers are not uncommon tools for mark to make his White Pads stay White…..now only if I could get him to clean my stuff too….
